(8) The Imperial Palace (Kyuden)

Kyuden

The Imperial Palace (Kyuden) was completed in 1968 and is a steel-framed reinforced concrete structure with one belowground and two aboveground stories. Most materials used in its construction were produced domestically, including the large gabled and hipped roof, columns, and beams, with ancient Japanese architectural elements of beauty. The complex consists of seven wings, including Seiden State Function Hall, Homeiden State Banquet Hall, Chowaden Reception Hall, Rensui Dining Room, ChigusaChidori Drawing Room and the Emperor's daily office. The Imperial Palace (Kyuden) is used for both receiving state guests and holding official state ceremonies and functions.
