(9) Seimon-tetsubashi Bridge (Main Gate Bridge; Nijubashi)


Main Gate Bridge (Nijubashi)

This bridge is more familiarly known as Nijubashi Bridge. When the bridge was still made of wood, the section of the moat where it spanned was very deep, and the girders where the bridge rested had been doubled for support. That wooden bridge came to be known as Nijubashi: niju means gdoubledh and bashi means gbridge.h
It was replaced with a steel bridge.
