(5) Bairin-zaka Slope (Plum-grove Slope)

Bairinzaka

A slope, connecting Honmaru (the inner citadel) and Ninomaru (the second citadel), is called Bairin-zaka or Plum-grove Slope. It is said that hundreds of plum (ume) trees were planted here by Ota-Dokan in Edo period.
Today, there are about 50 red- and white-blossoming ume trees planted in 1967.
